There is nothing quite like the energy of Cape Town in March. Whether you are aiming for a sub-3-hour finish or a social rider just here for the views (and the medal), the Cape Town Cycle Tour is a bucket-list experience.
But as any seasoned rider will tell you, 109km of coastal wind, steep climbs like Suikerbossie, and the African sun can take a toll on more than just your legs.
The Cyclist’s Secret Weapon: Skin Prep & Repair
In a race this long, "friction" is the enemy. To ensure you’re smiling at the finish line in Green Point, your kit needs one essential addition: Lanolab Multi-use Balm.
-
Preventing the Chafe: Apply Lanolab to high-friction areas (thighs and underarms) before you kit up. Its pharmaceutical-grade lanolin creates a breathable, waterproof barrier that stays put.
-
Saddle Sore Salvage: If the 109km leaves you with saddle sores, the Papain (papaya enzyme) in Lanolab acts as a natural anti-inflammatory to soothe and repair the skin overnight.
-
Windburn & Sunburn: Flying down Chapman’s Peak is exhilarating, but the combination of salt spray and wind can leave your lips and face feeling raw. A quick swipe of Lanolab keeps your skin hydrated and protected.
-
Gravel Rash: Hopefully, it’s a rubber-side-down kind of day, but if you do have a minor scrape or graze, Lanolab’s antibacterial properties help speed up the healing process.
Coming from out of town? Lanolab’s Local Recommendations
Since you’ve traveled all this way, don't just see the city from your saddle! Here are a few "Lanolab-approved" things to do in Cape Town while you’re here:
The Pre-Race Shakeout
A gentle spin or walk along the Sea Point Promenade is the best way to get the travel stiffness out of your legs. It’s flat, scenic, and the perfect place to catch the sunset before the big day.
The Post-Argus Caffeine Fix
If you’re finishing the 109km, you deserve the best. Head to Truth Coffee in the CBD (voted one of the best in the world) or grab a matcha from Ceremony Matcha or Nice to Matcha in Sea Point. Another one of our favourites you can find around Cape Town is Plato Coffee, we recommend the Iced Dirty Caribbean. Thank us later.
Recovery with a View
Skip the ice bath and head to the St James, Camps Bay or Dalebrook Tidal Pools in Kalk Bay. The cold Atlantic water is the ultimate natural recovery for tired muscles, and the vibe is pure Cape Town magic.
Quick Race Day Checklist
-
Registration: Collect your race pack at the Expo (don't forget your ID!).

The Tube: Tuck your 25g Lanolab tube into your jersey pocket, it’s small enough to carry and fixes everything from dry lips to cuts, grazes and chafe.

Final Tip: When you hit the top of Suikerbossie, remember: the hard work is done! Enjoy the descent into Llandudno and the welcome waiting for you at the finish.
